MIAMI BEACH — In its tenth year, Design Miami again enjoyed a prime location across the street from the center of the Miami universe, Art Basel Miami Beach. Presentations at the show featured design objects ranging from familiar midcentury modern classics to contemporary luxury objects bordering on the obscene.
Overall, the fair was a successful, if safe, snapshot of the design world today. Unlike the more international art fair across the street, the galleries represented at Design Miami were almost exclusively North American and European, which may explain some of the homogeneity of the installations. Standouts of the fair included some of-the-moment lighting designs by Lindsey Adelman and Jeff Zimmerman as well as more experimental computer-aided furniture designs by Janne Kyttanen and Mathias Bengtsson.
